How to measure a rough opening?

To measure the size of the rough opening accurately, follow the steps below:

1. Measure the width between the doorway studs three times, as shown in picture 1. Record the smallest measurement out of the three.

2. Measure the height on both sides, as shown in picture 2. Record the smallest measurement.
